Does your school have a policy for your PE and School Sport kit?

There is a kit policy, but it does not exist in writing and there may be some misunderstanding and lack of adherence to key elements by staff and pupils.

There is a written policy regarding school PE kit (which may be part of a wider PE policy), but this covers clothing rather than issues surrounding this.

There is a clear separate PE Kit kit policy which has been developed in partnership with other PE staff and is based on pupil / parent voice. This is fully understood and adhered to by all.

Has your school amended the PE kit policy recently?

Not for some time and it is due for a refresh.

There have been minimal changes as a result of pupil / parent feedback.There is an agreed time frame for a review.

There has been an extensive review involving consultation and feedback with all key parties, and a new inclusive PE kit policy has been developed and is being utilised and adhered to by all.

Do you provide choice through offering a selection of PE kit that pupils can choose from?

The PE kit mainly consists of only one option of top or bottoms for pupils to choose from.

There are some options for pupils to choose from across tops and bottoms, but there is a need to extend the selection further to ensure religious needs, gender and style choice is fully considered.

There are a wide range of PE kit options for pupils to choose from including alternative top styles and fits (round neck / collar, fitted / loose, short / long sleeved) and bottoms (shorts / leggings / joggers) available in both male and female sizes. Pupils have choice over which style and gender options they can select from.

Was your PE kit designed considering the widest needs of pupils who attend you school?

It was designed with pupils in mind but some time ago and may not reflect changes and current needs.

The PE kit has been designed to be cost effective and non – gender specific but could consider wider pupil needs further.

The PE kit has been developed to fully reflect pupil needs considering colour, gender (options and sizing), SEND (preferences and dislikes) and in support of religious requirements. Regular monitoring takes place to ensure ongoing suitability.

Has the cost for the PE kit been considered recently?

Cost has always been a consideration but may not take account of all family financial situations.

The PE kit has been reviewed recently to ensure it is cost-effective and does not require too many badged / branded items.

All items of the PE kit have been reviewed with regards quality, cost, and ease of access ensuring badged / branded items are not required or are minimal and only required on essential items.

Have the items within the PE kit been reviewed and discussed by pupils / parents?

The PE kit has been established by the school with minimal input from pupils and parents.

The PE kit has been reviewed using pupil and parent voice, with amendments to a few items due to this feedback.

A survey or open meeting has been held with a representative sample of pupils and parents to elicit sound feedback on all items of the PE kit considering style, sizing, quality, durability, cost and accessibility. A fully inclusive PE kit has been implemented as a result.

Has consideration been given to where the PE kit is sourced and its sustainability?

Some consideration has been given to where the PE kit is accessed but this requires reviewing as do sustainability measures.

A few items of the PE kit have been reviewed to ensure local sourcing, where feasible. Some sustainability measures are in place with the gifting and reuse of items.

All PE kit items have been reviewed ensuring local sourcing with full consideration to the sustainability of production and long-term usage.

Does school support students and families in need with help to access PE kit, as required?

Some items of PE kit are available for students to loan / borrow as required to enable access to sport and physical activity.

Support to purchase / be provided with essential PE kit items is available to families in need through identified funding e.g. Pupil Premium or local poverty proofing mechanisms.

A full PE kit containing all items required is directly provided to pupils in need through identified funding e.g. Pupil Premium or local poverty proofing mechanisms.
